Joanne Bateup Thomas Named Associate Director for International Students

Joanne Bateup ThomasJoanne Bateup Thomas has been named the new Associate Director for International Students, effective immediately. In this role, she will supervise day-to-day international student advising services and operations, provide backup support for faculty/staff immigration operations, as well as provide strategic leadership on a broad of range of issues. Joanne will be reporting to Tayla R. Burns, Deputy Director of the Davis International Center.
Joanne has worked in the field of international student services since 2011. She most recently worked at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) in their Center for Global Engagement on broad campus internationalization, planning, and strategic priority initiatives in addition to her work with international students and scholars. Joanne specifically works with students to ease the challenge of navigating the U.S. regulatory and higher education systems to achieve their academic, personal, and professional goals. She enjoys building effective collaborations with colleagues from all parts of campus to create meaningful impact on student learning and development. Joanne holds an undergraduate in Anthropology and International Studies from The Pennsylvania State University and a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership-Higher Education from Temple University. 
Joanne also facilitates intercultural learning opportunities for undergraduates including as an adjunct for the First Year Seminar Program at TCNJ. Her course Global Issues Local Impacts builds undergraduates' understanding of the peoples of Trenton, NJ through connection with hyper-local, regional, national and global histories that continue to reverberate in our community today.
