Post-Optional Practical Training (OPT) and STEM-OPT Reporting Instructions

REPORTING REQUIREMENTS OVERVIEW FOR THOSE ON POST-OPT AND STEM-OPT

F-1 regulations require students who are pursuing Post-OPT or STEM-OPT to report the following to the Davis IC within 10 days of the change:

  • Any change of U.S. residential address. 
  • Any start of employment or any changes to current employment.
  • Please notify your International Student Advisor if you change from F-1 status to another visa category while on OPT and upload proof (e.g. copy of H-1B visa, copy of H-1B Approval Notice, copy of a PR card, I-94 etc.) using the Student Document Upload form in TigerNav under the Student Services category. 
  • If you have departed the country and do not intend on utilizing the remainder of your approved OPT, please reach out to your International Student Advisor for further guidance.
  • Those on STEM-OPT have additional reporting requirements that are outlined in Items 7 – 10 on the STEM OPT page.

IMPORTANT: SEVP launched the SEVP Portal to allow students access to update employer and address information themselves in their record. To ensure full compliance with federal regulations and SEVP guidance, all updates MUST be submitted to the Davis IC directly and NOT through the SEVP Portal. 

POST-OPT REPORTING INSTRUCTIONS

Any start of employment, changes to current employment, and residential address changes must be reported to the Davis IC within 10 days of the update. All updates MUST be reported through the Davis IC forms and NOT through the SEVP Portal. Additional information can be found in Item 15 on our OPT page.

Please take the following steps to access Post-OPT Reporting to the Davis IC:

  1. Visit TigerNav and scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the link for “OPT Student/New Scholar Login” to access a limited services “Login.”
  2. Use the link at the bottom of the screen to have your limited services access pin (which will serve as your password) emailed to you, if you have not done so already. Your pin/password will remain the same and you may use the email password link as needed for future logins should you forget your information.
  3. Login using your University ID, Date of Birth, and Limited Services Pin/Password.

To submit Post-OPT Reporting, click “F-1 Practical Training” and then “Post OPT Reporting”. Click “Start a New Request” to complete and submit your reporting for Davis IC review. This process will allow students to submit any combination of the following in a single request: update contact information and residential address, update existing employment, and add new employment.

Only one reporting request can be submitted at a time. If there are any errors or changes mid-processing, please contact your International Student Advisor  by email to update your reporting.

Reporting new employment, end of employment, or changes in employer name or the state of employment will result in new I-20 issuance within 10 business days of complete submission. The Davis IC will send the I-20 electronically to the personal email (non-PU) email address reported in the submission within 10 business days of a complete submission.

STEM-OPT REPORTING INSTRUCTIONS

Any start of new employment, any changes to current employment, and residential address changes must be reported to the Davis IC within 10 days of the update. All new employment MUST be reported through the Davis IC forms and NOT through the SEVP Portal.

New employment or employment changes while on STEM-OPT also requires additional requirements. In addition, those on STEM-OPT are required to report certain information to the Davis IC every six months. Further details regarding STEM-OPT reporting requirements (including additional documentation needed) are outlined in Items 7 – 10 on the STEM OPT page.

Please take the following steps to access STEM OPT Validation Reporting deadlines, view current information on file, and submit reporting to the Davis IC:

To view your STEM OPT Reporting Deadlines and current information on file, click “F-1 Practical Training” and then “View my STEM OPT Information."

To submit STEM OPT Reporting, click “F-1 Practical Training” and then “STEM OPT Reporting”. Click “Start a New Request” to complete and submit your reporting for Davis IC review. This process will allow students to submit any combination of the following in a single request: update contact information and residential address, update existing employment, add new employment, or submit any required validation reporting and evaluations.

If you require an I-983 submission for reporting purposes, you MUST have it ready in PDF format to submit the online reporting form to Davis IC.
