Optional Practical Training (OPT) and STEM OPT Reporting Forms

F-1 visa regulations require students who are pursuing post-completion Optional Practical Training to continue to report certain information to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) within 10 days of the change. That means that students who are pursuing OPT after graduation including STEM OPT must report the following information to the Davis International Center where the information will then be reported to SEVIS:

  • Any change of U.S. address
  • Any change in the employment name or address
  • Any interruption in employment
  • For STEM Validation Reporting, please submit the Validation Report Form to Docuport

Alternatively, students on post-completion OPT or the STEM Extension can use the SEVP Portal to update employer and address information themselves. However, a reminder to students on the STEM extension: any material changes to the I-983 Training Plan requires that you provide an updated copy of the training plan using DocuPort. For guidance on using the Portal, please visit the SEVP Portal Help page. If your account is locked or you need password assistance, please email Andria Kwasnicki, at andriak@princeton.edu for assistance. Please allow 3 business business days for a response.

Students on post-completion OPT must work at least 20 hours per week. For the purposes of reporting, please follow the definitions noted here for employment hours. If you have concerns regarding meeting the 20 hours per week minimum or have departed the country and no longer intend on utilizing the remainder of your approved OPT, please reach out to your International Student Advisor.

Part-time: 20 hours or less per week

Full-time: More than 20 hours per week

Note: Any change in employment will result in the issuance of an updated I-20 reflecting the update reported. Please ensure that employer names are listed as you/your employer wish it to show on your I-20. You will be responsible for arranging the shipment of your new document. Students who choose to use eShipGlobal should create an order on the eShipGlobal website and email the confirmation number to puvisa@princeton.edu. All international shipments must be made through eShipGlobal. Students within the U.S. may request that their I-20 be mailed through USPS and should send an email to puvisa@princeton.edu with the address they would like their document mailed to. Please note that tracking is not available through USPS. Please allow 5 business days for your new I-20 to be issued for an employment update

IMPORTANT UPDATE: As a relatively new resource, SEVP is still working on improving and correcting glitches in the SEVP Portal. If you report an employment update on the portal and do not hear from our office within 5 business days, please reach out to puvisa@princeton.edu to confirm that your update was processed successfully.

Please report any relevant changes as listed above by submitting the information via the following forms:
