DHS Proposed Duration of Status Rule Information Session

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) published a Notice of Proposed Rule Making on Friday, September 25. This rule is now under a public comment period that will last until October 26, 2020. The proposed rule discusses changes for F-1, F-2, J-1, and J-2 visa holders, but does not impact others (i.e., H-1B, O-1, TN, E-3, and any dependents holding derivative visas). During this period of proposed rulemaking, comment and review the current regulations and guidance remain in effect. There is no change to status for students, scholars, or their dependents as this time.

Davis IC will host this information session to describe the process of rule making in the U.S., discuss potential timelines, and describe what changes are currently in the proposed rule.

As we will discuss in the session it is possible that these proposed changes will be different if and when a final rule goes into effect.
